SING YOUR OWN SONG

Solo singing lessons

Having started off as a Classical singer, I moved into Music Theatre and then on to singing with Covers and Jazz Bands. As such, I understand the benefit of a strong technique for all vocal styles. I will assist you in developing these techniques, allowing you to sing a wide variety of different vocal styles. The majority of my students work in the contemporary area (Pop, Rock, R & B, Country, Musical Theatre and Jazz) with a handful working in the Classical area.

My students study music at the secondary and tertiary level, sing in bands, compose their own music, sing for the joy and confidence it gives them, teach singing, perform in Musical Theatre and record their music.

• Lessons can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes in duration depending on your needs.
• The minimum age for beginning student is 12 years.
• I can cater for beginner students through to advanced /professionals.

IT TAKES TWO

Shared singing lessons

This is primarily offered to students who may not have the confidence to sing by themselves in the early stages or would like to share the experience with someone close to them.

The lesson is extended to 50 minutes, providing both students with adequate time to get what they need from each lesson. This is also a good way to trial lessons, to get a feel for what you might want to do and where you might want to go with your singing.

It also gives students the opportunity to sing duets and learn how to harmonise with each other. Being able to sing a harmony is a handy skill to have and can help with performing “back-up vocals” in a band or enhance choral (singing in a choir) skills.

I’M A STAR

Musical Theatre
focus

So you want to “tread the boards” and be a star of the stage? I know the feeling….been there, done that. Nothing beats the feeling of being under the lights and pouring out your passion and emotions in front of a live audience.

I can help you build up your audition repertoire. You’ll need to have a collection of songs from many different decades, up-tempo and ballad songs, acting/character pieces and songs in different vocal styles. I’ll help you to choose songs appropriate to the show you’re auditioning for and get them “audition-ready” (develop an emotional connection, unleash the “actress within”, basic movement/staging).

DO AN EXAM

VCE or AMEB sing exams

If you are studying, or intending to study VCE singing, I can help. I have been teaching Units 1-4 VCE singing for many years and am familiar with the following courses; Contemporary and Classical Solo Voice, Music Investigation and Group. My experiences working as a VCAA assessor (Contemporary and Classical Voice) and conducting VCE Masterclasses in a variety of settings will be a valuable resource for you.

Perhaps you want to get a few singing exams under your belt before you start your VCE studies or you simply love the structure that regularly completing exams gives you, I can help here as well. I am familiar with ANZCA and the following AMEB singing syllabi (Musical Theatre, Classical and Singing for Leisure). In 2021 I will begin to investigate the AMEB Rockschool Syllabus.

Let me know what examining body you’d like to use and I’ll organise it. Your wish is my command.

SPECIAL OCCASION?

Run of lessons to prepare for an event

Would you, or a group of you, like to perform at a special event in the future? Performing at your own wedding as a surprise for your new wife or at your husband’s 30th always makes the occasion more special and memorable. Maybe even a small “flash-mob” to let your partner know how much you love her? A run of lessons leading up to the event will ensure that you not only sound great, but that you also feel confident and positive about the performance.

I can help you to find backing tracks or an accompanist to make the gig as hassle-free as possible. Packages will be specifically designed to suit your needs and budget.

WORKSHOPS

Group masterclasses

• Ask me about running Masterclasses for students studying VCE Contemporary Voice. Having been a VCE Assessor for many years as well as having helped many VCE students to complete Contemporary/Classical Solo Voice, Music Investigation and Group, I have a wealth of valuable advice to pass on.

• I am happy to work with your Vocal Ensemble and share with your students my experience and “tricks”. It’s always invigorating for a music group to have a new face working with them pushing them out of their comfort zone and getting them to do things a little differently.

•An added bonus of these activities, for the accompanying staff, is that it can contribute to Professional Development hours.
